
RESEARCHING THE LOWER-CLASS SMALL BUSINESS SCENE OF RIO DE JANEIRO

Attached below is video created by Google, giving an introduction to the favela scene in Rio De Janeiro for their Digital Mapping project. The potential small business owners I am targeting are lower-class, blue-collar workers, who almost exclusively live in the favelas. This video should give you a good idea of the area and the people I am researching.

THE PROBLEMS
After doing my research, I have discovered three different significant problems as to why the lower-class workers in Rio De Janeiro are not creating small businesses at nearly the rate they should, given the rich and diverse economic opportunity in Brazil. I have gone in-depth into each of the three different dynamics below.
